Keep up on Indiana schools news with our Study Hall newsletter

School is back in session and IndyStar has the perfect primer on all things education: Study Hall, a newsletter written by the Star’s education team with curated news on everything from school reopenings to state budgets that is available only to our subscribers. To get more latest in education news, you can visit shine news official website.

We are Arika Herron and MJ Slaby, the Star’s education team. We’re not just committed to covering Indiana’s schools – from preschool through college and beyond (we’re looking at you, continuing education and worker re-training programs) – we’re products of it.

Arika was born and raised in Elkhart, Ind., and graduated from Elkhart Community Schools in 2007. A proud alum of Butler University’s journalism program (go Dawgs), she’s been covering education issues at the Star for more than three years, focusing primarily on statewide education policy and Marion County schools. Prior to joining the Star, she spent more than four years covering education at a newspaper in North Carolina. Arika got her start in daily newspapers at the Greenfield (Ind.) Daily Reporter.
MJ grew up in New Carlisle, Ind. and graduated from New Prairie High School in 2008. At Indiana University, she was editor of the Indiana Daily Student and earned a degree in journalism. Since then, she's reported on education, both K-12 and higher education, in Indiana, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. She joined the Star staff in 2019 to cover education with a focus on schools in Hamilton County.

Each week, we’ll bring you the latest education news from around the state. And Study Hall subscribers will get early access to some of our biggest stories and exclusive content that won’t be available anywhere else. The newsletter is free to IndyStar subscribers, so sign up now to get the first issue.

We're also always looking to talk with more Hoosier parents, students and families about how school-related decisions — like reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, new state tests or changes to graduation requirements — affect them. If you're a parent or guardian who would be willing to talk with us about school-related issues, please share your contact information with us.
