Hi, I've been reading a lot of good info about Canopy 900mhz devices on this forum, and decided to tell you my situation. My local WISP has been unable to get my connection improved, but we are still working on it. They have been very helpful, but I think I'm just in a bad spot.

After a few years of a decent signal on my roof mast, it's gone to unusable this summer (trees growing across the road probably) They tried all different spots on my roof, including a 20 foot tripod on the peak, and everything was a worse signal than where I already was. The best I saw on the roof was -76dbm, but it would completely drop out on high use times.

I spent some time with a temporary short mast(8-10ft) out in my yard and found a much better signal - consistently -71dbm, but download speeds are still very slow most of the time. However the connection doesnt drop out, and upload speeds seem to remain close to advertised.

Any tips for improving these speeds? The signal strength seems great, do I just need to go higher 10 or 20 feet? Here's what I'm seeing from the radio.

Session Status :
REGISTERED VC 56 Rate 2X/2X
Color Code :
160 ( Primary )
Channel Frequency :
914.0 MHz
Power Level :
Actual: -71 dBm Min: -78 dBm Max: -70 dBm
Transmit Power Level :
26 dBm
Jitter (Interference Level) :
Actual: 2 Min: 1 Max: 5
Air Delay :
232 approximately 6.478 miles (34208 feet)

Also, I forgot - the wireless company also has 2.4ghz equipment available, but they seem to be unwilling to try it with my already poor 900 connection. Is it possible that depending on the terrain that the 2.4 would work better/ differently than the 900mhz? I know they say it has a shorter range, but I'm still technically in distance-wise.

Do you have access to the configuration of the radio? If so, run a link test for 10 seconds three times. Post the results here.

Also post a picture of the antenna connected to the SM.

If you have crappy 900 signal 2.4 will be worse.
