First of all, no glove is omnipotent, and it may not be able to prevent this.
At present, there are several kinds of natural rubber, nitrile rubber, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and chloroprene rubber commonly sold in the market.
Natural rubber:
Obtained from rubber trees.
Excellent cutting resistance; Good protection against alcohols and water-based chemicals; It has good protective effect on pure ketones and aldehydes; No plasticizer; Good flexibility and wet grip; Good insulation; Low cost- It has natural protein and can cause skin allergy- Poor chemical protection against oils (fission and softening), lipids and organic compounds (aromatic).
Nitrile rubber:
A copolymer of polybutadiene acrylonitrile and methacrylic acid.
-Excellent tear resistance, cutting resistance, puncture resistance and abrasion resistance (good physical performance)- No protein and plasticizer- Good flexibility and sensitivity- Good dryness and grip- It has good protection against oil, fuel, most solvents (toluene, xylene, perchloroethylene), lipids, animal fats and other substances- Harder than natural rubber or PVC- Poor wet and oily grip; Some chemicals such as ketones and some organic solvents (benzene, methylene chloride, trichloroethylene,...) cannot be protected. High cost (2.5 times of natural rubber).
Neoprene:
Polyvinyl chloride (synthetic rubber)
Good anti oil substances, anti acid substances (containing nitrogen or sulfur), anti-corrosion substances, and anti wide range of solvents (phenol, ethylene glycol, aniline); Medium physical properties (poor barrier resistance, cutting resistance, puncture resistance and friction resistance compared with nitrile and natural rubber)
Not suitable for organic solvents
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC):
It is made of alkenyl chloride monomer and plasticizer (providing flexibility for
PVC layer)
Good friction resistance; It has good protection against many strong acidic compounds, corrosives, alkali metals, deoxyribonucleic acid salts and alcohol compounds
Easily cut and pierced; Not suitable for ketones and organic solvents
In general, it is not wrong to use natural rubber gloves to protect strong acid and alkali, and nitrile rubber to protect organic solvent. The protection of specific chemicals under different concentrations will be different, and the penetration and degradation of certain materials will be different, which needs the database analysis of professional glove manufacturers.
