It should not come as a surprise if you've been hearing people talking about refugee status being available to you through some program that the United States has set up. The process itself can be a very confusing process, however there are many issues that can be resolved by speaking with a representative from the US immigration service. If you are an immigrant, or if you know someone who is an immigrant, it is imperative that you learn more about the options available for you regarding refugee status. What exactly is meant by the term "refugee?" This can be a term applied to people from any country, including those that have been forcibly removed from their countries. The term also covers people from areas of the world that have been subjected to violence or serious human rights abuses.

Asylum or refugee status is a type of legal protection that can be given to individuals who fulfill the definition of a refugee, and who therefore are of exceptional humanitarian interest to the United States. Refugees are usually people from areas of the world that are unable or unwilling to return to their homes due to threats posed by violence or serious human rights abuses. In certain circumstances, the United States will grant refugee status to individuals who have been displaced due to such events, even though they may not be able to return at this time. For instance, in cases where families have been displaced due to civil war, terrorist activities, or natural disasters, the United States will consider granting some type of refugee status.

In order to receive refugee status, an applicant must be able to provide evidence of a specific hardship relating to their religion or nationality. Some examples of documentation required for refugee status include the names and locations of places where members of the protected category have been tortured, photographs documenting the torture, and letters from relatives and friends describing the abuse. The United States will also require information identifying the actual perpetrator of the torture, as well as information identifying any other persons known to be associated with the crime. If you think you fit any of these requirements, you should submit your application to the United States for consideration as a refugee.
