Hi can anyone tell me the difference between these two services besides the speed?

Are the modems required for each different our are they the same? What is stopping me from getting the 12 mbps and doing a self install and then upgrading to 18 mbps thus avoiding the installation fee??

Thank you

Both tiers are the same price on most bundle promos.

The modems should be the same in most cases.

Well, if you get 12 Mbps and try upgrading to 18 Mbps you'll still be required to pay the installation fee unless you get someone to waive it.

A customer self install on 12M or less profile expection is using house phone wiring, either quad or cat3.
A full tech install ($99) is required on speed tiers above 12... need cat5e straight from nid to RG bypassing all house wiring and multiple phone jacks.
New cable... new jack... new wall plate or biscuit.

If order a self install and unable to complete... request for tech assistance on a failed install is the same $99 as a full tech install.

On a self install your profile is set to 13M... cannot support more without a system system change profile to 19 or 25 which triggers the tech install and fee.

Bottom line anything above MAX is billable.

Great info there, thank you. So if I have 18 Mbps and downgrade to 12, I should be set to upgrade back to 18 later without any additional fees?
