“I was sick of sitting at home doing nothing and wanted to get back into work.” Adam said “I’ve got a little boy and I wanted to provide for him and give him a good life. Since I came out of the army I’ve worked in warehouses and stuff like that but I like getting stuck in and working outdoors and have always wanted to be in the building trade."

Adam took a eight-week-training course, and in his sixth week, he got taken on as an apprentice groundworker. He shared that it took him a while to get his foot in the door but basically he showed that he had motivation. He just said to himself ‘listen, I want to learn to do this’, and got stuck in with the lads.
Without any experience, that was the first time he had done such a task but he was helped by a good team and got in with them. Adam actively asked questions and listened to their instruction. Now, Adam has got his foot in the door and he is really enjoying his job. He said that keep building because there will be more jobs for people like him and others who want a career in the construction trade.
