Michael Kors is an American fashion designer known for his luxury ready-to-wear and accessories. Kors was born in Cedarhurst, New York, in 1959. He developed an interest in fashion at an early age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already designing and selling his own clothes. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Kors worked for several design houses, including Lilly Pulitzer and Anne Klein. In 1981, Kors launched his own label with a small collection of women’s sportswear. The brand gained popularity for its jet-set aesthetic and its affordable prices. Kors expanded his business in the 1990s, launching a line of menswear, accessories, and fragrances.
