Yellowstone National Park is a remarkable natural wonder located in the western United States. Established in 1872, it was the first national park in the world and remains one of the most iconic. Spanning over 3,400 square miles, Yellowstone encompasses a diverse landscape of mountains, forests, geysers, hot springs, and abundant wildlife. The park is home to over 1,800 species of plants, 400 species of birds, 16 species of fish, and 67 species of mammals, including bison, elk, wolves, and bears. Yellowstone’s geological features are a testament to its volcanic past. The park sits atop the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano in the United States. Over 2 million years ago, the caldera erupted with an unimaginable force. spewing out enough ash to cover half of North America. This cataclysmic event shaped the park’s landscape, creating geothermal hotspots that fuel the park’s geysers, hot springs, and mudpots.
