The news that the Chargers had opted to put Hunter Henry on the physically unable to perform list Robert Thomas Jersey , rather than injured reserve, led to some hope that Henry might play this season despite suffering a torn ACL in May. But it’s only a sliver of hope.

Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco said it is possible Henry could play this season, but it’s not likely.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 a normal transaction to do since his injury happened before training camp,” Telesco said. “But, it does give us the small opportunity that if his rehab comes along very Larry Warford Jersey , very well, late in the year he could possibly come back to play. Now, the odds are much more that he鈥檒l play next year and not this year, we know that. But, we figured let鈥檚 keep the window open if we can. I think it鈥檚 great for him. He has that little carrot at the end that maybe James Hurst Jersey , maybe he could play. But we鈥檒l be very, very smart with it. Everything would have to perfectly line up. We would never jeopardize Hunter鈥檚 long-term prospect with doing something now. In 2013, Chargers defensive end Melvin Ingram tore his ACL in May Derrick Nnadi Jersey , and he came back to play in December of that year. So the Chargers know it can happen for Henry. But they also know it’s a long shot.

The Bengals expect Joe Mixon to be their “bell cow” in the backfield in his second season and Mixon’s preparation for that role included cutting some of the weight he carried as a rookie.

Mixon played at 230 pounds last year, but is down to 218 pounds with training camp getting underway next week.

“I was working in that heat,” Mixon said, via the team’s website. “I feel like that’s where I play my best. I was trying to get low last year but I wasn’t able to make it. I feel real good. My body feels real good. I feel like I’m in really good shape.”

Mixon ran 178 times for 626 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games during his rookie season. He closed the year with 18 carries for 96 yards in a victory over the Ravens and that’s likely the kind of performance the Bengals hope to see on a regular basis this season.

Regardless of what it says when Mixon steps on the scale, improved offensive line play will be crucial to making that happen. First-round center Billy Price and left tackle Cordy Glenn were brought in to help make that happen and the coming weeks should start to provide some answers about how that attempt will play out.
