Meter trial to teach Golden Goose energy savvy

Almost 9,000 households in Perth's eastern region are part of a three year trial which allows them to monitor their power usage.

Western Power and the Federal Government have jointly funded the $15 million scheme which involves replacing existing power meters with smart meters.

Householders will Golden Goose Slide Sneakers be able to monitor their power usage every half an hour.

Energy Minister Peter Collier says the technolgy is Golden Goose Mid Star Sneakers designed to encourage people to become energy aware.

"These smart meters will ... ensure that there's much more accurate assertion in terms of the transfer of energy to and from a home and it does provide an avenue for a connection to electric cars and it provides and avenue for in-home displays and a raft of other advanced features.

Western Power's Managing Director Doug Aberle Golden Goose Starter says the technology is a step towards WA becoming more sustainable.

Mr Aberle says information about how energy is being used has not been visible until now.

"You get a Golden Goose Superstar bill every two months but other than that, you don't have any sense of how or what you're doing is impacting on your consumption. The beauty of this is that it brings it so that it's really visible."
