Amongst Vans Cheapestbounty of collaborative co-creators, one of its premier partnerships is inarguably with the NYC-based retailer, Opening Ceremony. Over the years, the high fashion atelier has tapped into many a silhouette from Vans expansive arsenal, specializing in the under-appreciated models the likes of the Style 93 and the Style 36 you see done up two different ways here. Calling upon the unmistakable checkerboard aesthetic that the renowned skate brand has proverbially coined, OC is here to remix the look with a unique “Quilt Pack” motif that sees two colorways call upon floral accents often found on a patched-together quilt blanket. Admirers of this finely-crafted collection will have a choice between a black and red variety that each interact with hits of white for contrast and a gum-colored waffle sole unit.

Hairy suede and Vans Discountare used in conjunction for this set, while bringing a unique two-tone vibe that takes shape on both the uppers and outsoles of each shoe. Footpatrol branding takes shape in multiple key areas, including via an all-over graphic on the laces of the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool and coming on the lateral midsole of each, alongside an embossed kerb stone meant to emulate markings in London’s SoHo district. Set to release in conjunction with a photo exhibition dubbed “SoHo Since Forever” it is meant to celebrate the influential area and its inhabitants.

For the main design touch on both shoes Hayashi has taken Vans for Saleclassic checkerboard print, enlarged it to make each individual square stand out more, and then offered texture via a woven upper, swapping out the normal printed design for a look that boasts both intricate detailing and a premium feel. Black accents round off both uppers, and each midsole/outsole is dressed in an opaque grey with special detailing towards the heel.

Taking to Instagram to tease his collaboration with Vans Lowest PriceBEAMS buyer and SSZ director Tadayuki Kato sheds some light on the inspiration behind the stunning release as well as some detailed pictures of the central motif. Influenced heavily by the skate culture that surrounds him — as is reflected by his label’s name of “Surf & Skate Zine — Kato sets out to revise the ever-classic Old Skool in the deconstructive aesthetic he has become known for. Comprised of an off-white and black palette, the pair features a subtly stitched outline of the usual Jazz Stripe and clear waffle sole with an inside-out double tongue acting as the shoe’s focal point. Laced either under or over, the extra addition can be worn boldly as a protective shroud to the lace unit or toned down to fit a more contemporary style.

The Vans on SaleSlip-On has surely had a busy year with its almost constant transformations. Seen only a few months ago in a velvet retooling by the Japanese label Needles, the model is now taking a few notes from others’ books to embrace a welcome maximalism. With the classic Slip-On silhouette being internationally recognized, it’s only natural to completely transform the upper with an overall satin fabrication and hits of floral embroidery. Arriving in two base tones — one a more subtle black with the other being a bold, deep red — the rest of the upper is adorned with a colorful range of old flowers through a luxe brocade finish.
