As someone who's written up what feels like one million patch notes for
Fortnite Items, the breakneck speed at which upgrades roll out for the game is incredible--incorporating new manners, tools, alterations to the map, and changing the way people play instantly. The Infinity Blade was at the match and gone before I had a minute to boot it up. That is why I think it deserves this award more than anything else this year. It has changed expectations of what a continuing, dwell match means, and that I can't see any way other developers will have the ability to maintain. It's such a generous experience for a free match --and I say that as one of these profoundly old men who doesn't give a damn about emotes, skins, or items that kids like.
