Air deformation, also known as air jet deformation, refers to a processing method that uses compressed air jets to process filaments to obtain bulkiness and make them have certain characteristics similar to spun yarn. Its product is air textured yarn (ATY).
The air-textured yarn is fluffy and has a better hand feel than the original yarn, and has characteristics similar to spun yarn. The reason is that the surface geometry and silk structure of the filaments have changed.
Air textured yarn has the appearance of spun yarn, but the aurora and waxy feel like non-false twisted textured yarn is similar to worsted yarn in terms of covering effect and heat retention. Different texturing process conditions can be used to make the air texturized yarn have the appearance and feel of wool, yarn, linen or silk.
The preparation of wool-like yarn is that two filaments are fed parallel to the nozzle for air deformation. With different overfeeding rates, yarn loops of different sizes can be produced, with good bulkiness, and can be used as raw materials for suit materials and overcoats.
The yarn-like yarn also feeds two filaments parallel to the nozzle for air deformation, but one of the filaments is scratched to form fluff, the loop is not exposed, and the feel, luster and appearance are very similar to worsted yarn. It is more appropriate to prepare yarn-like yarns using medium-fine special yarns, which can be made by one-step method of fully oriented yarns or pre-oriented yarns, without plying, twisting and sizing, and directly used for knitting or weaving.
Another feature of air deformation is to mix fibers while deforming. It refers to feeding two or more different strands of raw silk into the nozzle at different overfeed rates at the same time to make a variety of fancy silk. The raw yarn can be different kinds of synthetic fibers, such as polyester-cotton, polyester-viscose, polyester, spandex and other blended fibers; it can also be the same fiber, but with different specifications, such as linear density, twist, shrinkage, cross-sectional shape, and color. Through continuous or intermittent overfeeding and deformation, the fancy yarn produced can be slub yarn, knotted yarn, snowflake yarn, cored yarn, colored yarn and threaded yarn. For example, use polyester with boiling water shrinkage rate of more than 10% as core yarn, and polyester with less than 5% as sheath yarn, which will become slub yarn after air deformation (that is, the core-spun yarn has thick knots on the stem). Another example is the use of a basic color and a dark silk as the original silk.
