Ravens practiced without 13 players Wednesday, including QB Joe Flacco, OT Ronnie Stanley, WR Breshad Perriman, RB Danny Woodhead and CB Marlon Humphrey. None of these players are expected to play in Saturday's third preseason game. It's 18 days until the regular season opener in Cincinnati.
Retired linebacker Zach Orr attended Wednesday's Ravens practice. He first sat with general manager Ozzie Newsome before walking up to the linebackers on the field, where he was greeted by hugs. Suggs asked the slimmer Orr, "Are you a safety?" Coach John Harbaugh said the team would be interested in bringing back Orr as a coach or scout.
Saturday's third preseason game might not be the typical dress rehearsal for the regular season for the Ravens. "Now John [Harbaugh] will speak to you about that, that particular dress rehearsal thing because we're possibly do a little different," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. Harbaugh will speak to reporters Thursday.
Mike Wallace confident Ravens' offense 'will be fine' once injured players return
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens' first-team offense has as many turnovers as touchdowns midway through the preseason.
Filling in for the injured Joe Flacco, Ryan Mallett Joe Dumars Authentic Jersey is averaging an abysmal 4.2 yards per attempt. Behind a banged-up offensive line, Terrance West is managing a ragged 1.9 yards per carry.
Ravens wide receiver Mike Wallace insisted no one is panicking over the offense's struggles.
It's an understatement for Wallace to say there are "some guys injured." Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg should start holding meetings in the trainer's room.
"I think we will be fine," Wallace said. "It is just progression. We have some guys injured, different lineups, different guys in and out. I think we will be fine. Or, I know we will be fine come Week 1."
Flacco has yet to practice this summer because of a back issue. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley has been sidelined the past week with what coach John Harbaugh described as "camp stuff," and Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda has been held out of the preseason after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Wide receiver Breshad Perriman suffered a significant hamstring injury on Aug. 1 and has yet to return.
Harbaugh hasn't ruled out any of these players for the Sept. 10 regular-season opener in Cincinnati, but it's been difficult to watch this replacement offense try to move the ball on a consistent basis.
In four quarters of work, the Ravens' first-team offense has averaged 3.8 yards per play. To put that in perspective, the NFL's worst offense last season (the Los Angeles Rams) averaged 4.4 yards per play.
Wallace believes the return of Flacco http://www.officialnikejetshop.com -- and the Ravens say he will start the opener -- is the key.
What compounds matters is the fact that this Baltimore offense was one of the least efficient ones last season. Flacco had problems throwing the ball deep, and the running back failed to produce big plays.
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will soon return to practice, but he won’t play in a game before Baltimore opens the regular season on Sept. 10 at Cincinnati.
The Ravens announced Friday that Flacco’s progress from a back injury is ”good,” and that he will begin practicing in the preseason. The 10-year pro has not taken a snap at training camp.
Meanwhile, the Ravens say offensive lineman Alex Lewis will miss the 2017 season with a shoulder injury. He will undergo surgery next week.
Lewis played in 10 games last season. He missed one week with a concussion and was sidelined for five weeks with an ankle injury.
Also on Friday, the Ravens revealed that rookie Tim White will have season-ending surgery on his thumb. White, a rookie free agent out of Arizona State, scored a touchdown in Thursday’s win over the Redskins.
The fascination with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco's "eliteness" has surfaced on everything from T-shirts to beer cans to nationwide polls.
This time, it's Flacco's turn to embrace the debate. In a Tostitos commercial, Flacco calls out certain bags of chips as being "elite" as they move along a conveyor belt.
The best part is Flacco's parting shot. "Take it from someone who is elite," Flacco says, while tapping his chest, "you're an elite bag."
Last September, teammates bought 15 T-shirts that show Flacco's face with the word "ELITE" below it.
In January, a poll revealed that 41 percent of the United States population doesn't think Flacco is elite, which is up from 35 percent last year.
This is just the latest chapter in the Flacco-elite saga.
In May, a Massachusetts brewery placed the question "Is Joe Flacco elite?" on the bottom of 12,000 beer cans.
To his credit, Flacco has always taken the "elite" label in stride when asked about it.

We have all the confidence in the world in Ryan [Mallett], though. We will go out and [do] whatever we have to do. But, when you have a guy like Joe just sitting, you are licking your chops just waiting for him to come back, because we know the type of energy and the type of guy he is and the talent level he is going to bring to our offense."
