In 1970 adidas rod laver white blue was quite simply the greatest tennis player in the world. The Australian had won all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same year – twice, and set the record for consecutive Wimbledon victories with 61 straight wins over a decade. It came as no surprise to find such a successful athlete collaborating with Adidas on a sports shoe, and as is usual of the brand, the resulting trainer’s inimitable style was born out of function.

Soon after the natural Grand Slam accomplishment, adidas felt it was time for the star to receive his own shoe, and the adidas Rod Laver tennis shoe was introduced in 1970. The adidas rod laver pink grey featured a White and Green combination, colors often seen at Wimbledon. Minimal branding, coupled to a smooth look matched the personality of the legend well. Originally made up in mesh and leather, the shoe has had many incarnations over the years especially in 1990. Although Stan Smith received his signature shoe before Laver did, Rod Laver will always live in Wimbledon lore.

As the shoes grown its popularity, the vintage status of adidas rod laver shoes sale became increasingly unattached as the shoes have made its way to be paired with the latest street and everyday wear. With that, Adidas Rod Laver officially became the shoes that everyone needs to have in their shoe-rack. In 2016, Adidas presents a new edition of Rod Laver with a lavish look which features gold plating on the tongue and the heel tab. As Complex magazine said, the Rod Laver is the star of big projects while maintaining its underground appeal.

The inaugural iteration of the adidas rod laver black green marked a turning point in sneaker design. Stripped down and clean, this model moved away from heavy corporate branding and instead let the shoe do the talking. Simple and sleek, Laver’s namesake shoe had a timeless vibe sneaker fans loved. The 2014 Rod Laver has the same look and feel as the original, with a clean mesh and leather upper, suede toe bumper, rubber sole, and pops of color for a fresh look. Updates include the adidas Originals Trefoil logo on the tongue and at the heel along with Rod Laver’s name, plus hits of color on the sole.
