TEMPE, Ariz. -- "I know my career stats are horrible. I couldn't even tell you what they are."

Drew Stanton was just being honest when he said those words this week upon the Arizona Cardinals returning from London, where they were routed by the Rams, 33-0.

Stanton has been mostly a career backup quarterback during his 10 seasons in the NFL and his numbers are anything but gaudy.

In 34 career appearances, he's thrown more interceptions (20) than touchdowns (14) and has a 65.0 passer rating to show for it.

But now that he will be moving into a starting role following a broken left arm suffered by Carson Palmer in the Rams' debacle, perhaps things might get a little better. If that's even possible for a 3-4 team that has already suffered four losses to NFC opponents.

Stanton, however, is 6-3 during the past four years in Arizona as a starter when replacing Palmer. He is 8-5 as a starter overall.

is trying to come in and win football games. That's why I was disappointed from a personal standpoint of what happened last week because I went out there and wasn't able to get it pulled out.","That's the ultimate measure of a quarterback, especially as a backup," Stanton said. "That's something I take pride in

After Palmer left in the first half,Authentic Pat Tillman Jersey, Stanton stepped in and could complete only 5 of 14 passes for 62 yards. He was also intercepted once. In addition to a practice day he got this week during the Cardinals' bye week, Stanton will have plenty of time to try and fine-tune things before Arizona plays again a week from Sunday at San Francisco.

"I know Drew will bounce back and play a whole lot better when he gets all the practice time,Authentic David Johnson Jersey," head coach Bruce Arians said. "It's nice to have an extra day's work. He got literally no reps last week in our offense, so we'll get that straightened out."

Palmer is expected to miss anywhere from six to eight weeks.,Womens Deion Jones Jersey,Stanton helped the Cardinals beat the 49ers a year ago when, coming out of the bye week, he started in place of Palmer because Palmer was sidelined with a concussion. Now out with a broken bone in his non-throwing arm

As bad as he feels for his good friend, Stanton is relishing his opportunity.

you have a lot of freedom and he has a lot of trust in his signal-callers so to be able to do that,"Now I'm getting a full week to really digest the game plan and really, that's the beauty about B.A.," Stanton said. "He lets you kind of tailor it to what you want. When you go into those Saturday night meetings as a quarterback, I definitely feel comfortable moving forward."

Veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said he doesn't anticipate any significant changes to the offense and added the receivers all have faith in Stanton being able to get them the ball.

"We've won with Drew before. He knows what he's doing," Fitzgerald said.

Left tackle D.J. Humphries said he expects a smooth transition from Palmer to Stanton.

"Pretty sure it'll be hardly an adjustment at all," he said. "I feel like we have a guy back there we can win with."

--The Cardinals certainly have suffered their share of injuries, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suggests nobody would be able to function normally given what the Cardinals have lost., but so have plenty of other teams in the NFL this season. That being said

"When you lose your two best offensive players, you're going to feel it,Authentic Austin Hooper Jersey, you lose a perennial All-Pro guard, you lose a 12-plus sack guy off the edge," Fitzgerald said, running back David Johnson (fractured wrist), referring to quarterback Carson Palmer (broken arm), guard Mike Iupati (torn triceps) and outside linebacker Markus Golden (torn ACL).

"Your identity as a team is associated through your players and when they're stripped away ... I mean, the Packers, are you (expletive) kidding me? Miami's identity is not the same without (quarterback Ryan) Tannehill. Philadelphia is not going to have the same identity without a perennial All-Pro left tackle in Jason Peters. I mean,Womens David Johnson Jersey, they're the same team but their identity is not the same without (quarterback) Aaron Rodgers. I mean, you're only as good as your personnel is what I'm trying to say."

--The Cardinals are coming off a season-low 25 total rushing yards in their loss in London to the Rams. In their previous game against the Buccaneers,Womens Pat Tillman Jersey, including 134 by Adrian Peterson in his Arizona debut., they ran for a season-high 160 yards

" Peterson said. "I know I'm going to go out there with the same emphasis of doing my job and doing it to the max. I'm very disappointed with how we performed as a group in the run game and we'll take this time to reflect and make sure that's not the case for the remainder of the season.",Authentic Deion Jones Jersey,"We've just got to bounce back and continue to press forward

--"You've just got to put it behind you, learn from it,Womens Austin Hooper Jersey, man. You have to have a short-term memory,Womens Vic Beasley Jr Jersey, and continue to go forward. It's a long season. If we want to accomplish what we've set forth, obviously,Authentic Vic Beasley Jr Jersey, we're going to have to use that short-term memory and just try focusing on this next game and get a W." - Running back Adrian Peterson on how the Cardinals try to turn the page.

--Though head coach Bruce Arians has said from the start that backup quarterback Drew Stanton is his pick to replace the injured Carson Palmer, who has been inactive for each of the team's first seven games., the Cardinals are hearing from their fans on sports-talk radio and on social media that Arians should consider the more athletic Blaine Gabbert

Gabbert didn't want any part of the conversation when asked if he should be considered for the starting job.

"Drew's going to do a great job and I'm going to be there to support him, "Everybody is the best Monday morning quarterback in the world. Everybody is going to have their opinion on how we play the game because we are the most watched position in sports. Right or wrong," Gabbert said, adding, everybody thinks they can do our job, good or bad, but most people can't. So we're accountable to the guys here."

--"Hearing reports I'm retiring. News to me. Nothing could be further from the truth and 100 percent focused on getting back on track at SF!" - Head coach Bruce Arians responding on his Twitter account to an erroneous local television report than he plans to retire at the end of this season.
