Hello

The problem is not incoming e-mail. You can probably already see your incoming e-mail. The problem is outgoing mail through their SMTP outgoing mail service. The solution is to use the following customized settings for outgoing SMTP e-mail:

The outgoing SMTP server setting will be something similar to smtp-server.<your location>.rr.com where <your location> will be something related to your geographic area. Here is an example for central NY:
smtp-server.twcny.rr.com
(Check your incoming (POP) settings to see the geographic portion of the server setting if you are not sure, or contact your local Time Warner Road Runner office.)

The SMTP server requires password authentication, but not SSL.

Unlike the user name for incoming (POP), you will need to use your entire email address (including the @ symbol). In contrast, the incoming (POP) user name setting only requires the first part of your email address.

Your password for SMTP will be the same as your normal e-mail account password.

Hello

The Time Warner SMTP service began refusing mail sent over my PIA VPN as of 2 days ago with the Tbird popup msg: "The msg could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.twc.com timed out. Try again" Try again yields the same result. If I turn off my VPN, it works just fine. TW customer service is excreable.. I thought to try Yahoo or Gmail SMTP, since I have accounts on both. But I cannot seem to properly configure SMTP to work with either. I have tried the various config combinations and thought I do get to the point of being asked for a password after initiating send, both Yahoo & Gmail tell me the password and/or account is invalid. And the password and account I use in both cases is one I have checked by signing out of their home pages, putting the password in the clipboard, signing back in and pasting the password, resulting in successful signin....thus proving the validity of both the account and password. And in both cases, I have my VPN disengaged.

Thanks

Hello..

The outgoing SMTP server setting will be something similar to the smtp-server.<your location>.rr.com, located where is <your location> . This will be something related to your geographic area. Here is a crude example –

Check the incoming POP settings to see the geographic portion of the server setting if you are not sure or contact the local Time Warner Road Runner office. The SMTP server requires password authentication but do not use SSL.

Unlike those user name for incoming POP, you will need to use the email address using the symbol. In contrast, the incoming POP user name setting only requires the first part of the email address. The password for SMTP will be the same as normal as the email account password.

The port setting for SMTP server will need to change to 587. Even if your email program states that 587 in one of the default ports, which works the best to choose the specifically designed port of 587.
