If a patient complains of knee or joint pain, your first thought is not to suspect facet joints. Although facet joints are found in the back, shoulder, and neck, people often forget about them as a source of pain. In this blog post, I will share a little bit about facet joint injections, why they have become more popular in the past, and how you can better identify the cause of your patient's pain. Facet joint injection is a common procedure used by Physiotherapists to treat patients with upper or lower back pain. It is also commonly used by doctors to relieve pain in the shoulders, neck or arms. This blog aims to explain to patients what to expect before, during and after a facet joint injection. It will go through the different types of injections used and the role Physiotherapists play during the procedure. Facet joint injection is a minimally invasive procedure, in which an anesthetic is injected into a facet joint. It is used as a treatment option for patients suffering from acute or chronic back pain. Facet joint injection, also known as block injection, is usually performed under fluoroscopic guidance. The procedure is done by an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon.
