You may know Spenser from last year’s Panthers vs. Patriots preview, as he joined us to correctly tell us that we were dumb for thinking the Panthers weren’t going to beat the Patriots in Foxboro. There are no game predictions this time, but we did talk about which Patriots players are worth watching and how this Patriots team is different from those of years past. Of course that’s interspersed with talk about what’s expected of the Panthers with their patchwork offensive line and young defensive backfield. That means today’s countdown piece is about safety Dezmen Southward. Dezmen SouthwardBioHeight: 6’2”Weight: 208 lbsAge: 27College: WisconsinNFL Experience: 3 yearsSouthward was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft. Prior to his second season in the league, the new Falcons coaching staff converted the former Wisconsin Badger to cornerback Color Rush Shaq Thompson Jersey , where he apparently played poorly enough to get cut in November of his sophomore season. He was promptly signed to the Colts practice squad, but he was unable to make the final roster for the following season. The Panthers signed Southward to their practice squad near the end of the 2016 season and signed him to a futures contract at season’s end. Despite showing some promise during the 2017 season, he missed the final cut and was again signed to the practice squad. He was however signed to the active roster for the Panthers week 5 contest against the Lions with safeties Kurt Coleman and Demetrious Cox out with injuries. With Coleman out of the picture, Southward has a chance to make the final roster. Rashaan Gaulden and Mike Adams are likely roster locks, leaving one or two safety spots open for Dezmen’s taking.
