No longer just for bankers, pinstripes are "the quintessential men's look adapted for women," says L.A. stylist Ricci DeMartino of the traditional power suit. "A lot of people can wear this trend well." Chalk it up to the effect the prominent pattern creates. "A pinstripe has a life to it," says Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field, who put actress Sarah Jessica Parker in a jaunty pair of Miguel Adrover pinstriped knickers. "It has more animation than a solid." The lively look also works well in making the wearer stand taller, notes DeMartino: "The lines carry the eye from the feet to the face and elongate the torso."
