Alcohol tolerance problems? « on: October 31, 2021, 11:20:33 PM » Hey all, wondering if anyone else experiences a reduced tolerance to booze?
Up to a year ago I could have 2 glasses of wine no problem, but if i had 3 or more I would wake up middle of the night with upset stomach and racing heart for an hour or so but it would pass.(unless it was like 4 glasses or more and then assorted hangover symptoms including nausea, shakes etc).
But starting a couple months ago, i have had a few nights before bed when my heart started racing and would race for easily 6+ hours and keep me awake, as well as mild stomach upset. I thought it was general hormonal menopause BS but last night I had 2 glasses of wine and had the racing heart/upset stomach/unable to sleep thing - its been 24 hours now and I still feel off and anxious now too! And when i think back, the last two times i had these symptoms I also had booze - just less than what would trigger it before. What is weird if that one time I only had 1 beer and a small glass of wine ( 4oz maybe max)..
So wtf? Has my booze tolerance dropped and why? Anyone else experienced this? I enjoy a little booze but does this mean I can’t drink any more?

Hi yes alcohol intolerance is another side effect of hormones! The gift that keeps on giving.

Sounds like your tolerance might be taking a hit. I know someone who had the same thing happen. They used to handle a few drinks just fine, but over time even one or two would mess with their heart rate and make them anxious for hours. They ended up cutting back because it just wasn’t worth the hassle. If it keeps up, maybe think about talking to a pro or even checking out a rehab centre just to see what’s going on. Sometimes your body just starts reacting differently to booze, especially as we get older.
