The Detroit Lions are moving on from offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. According to Albert Breer Luke Willson Jersey , the team will not renew Cooter’s contract, which expired at the end of the season. The move comes after the Lions offense had been completely ineffective over the past couple months. Though the Lions offense finished strong against the Green Bay Packers, it came off the heels of six straight games in which the Lions failed to score more than 20 points. Cooter joined the team in 2014 as Matthew Stafford’s quarterback coach. He took over offensive coordinator duties midway through the 2015 season after the Lions fired Joe Lombardi. Cooter endeared himself to Detroit after Stafford’s career was immediately revitalized. Stafford under Lombardi: 61.7 % completions, 7.1 Y/A, 34 TDs Jarrad Davis Jersey White , 21 INTs, 86.0 passer ratingStafford under Cooter (2015-16): 66.6% completions, 7.5 Y/A, 44 TDs, 14 INTs Womens Frank Ragnow Jersey , 97.5 passer ratingBut all that magic has worn off over the past few years. The Lions offense is the worst it has been in years, Stafford has regressed considerably, and despite an improved running game, Detroit is scoring fewer points than ever. Cooter has had to deal with a severe decline in talent due to injuries and questionable roster moves—both things obviously out of his control—but in an age where offenses seem more innovative and complicated, Cooter’s gameplans failed to develop and evolve. Instead Sam Martin Jersey White , Cooter appeared to grow more and more conservative as his tenure continued and tried to fit square peg players in his already establish round holes.Cooter is now the second Lions coach from 2018 that won’t be with the team going forward. Earlier in the season, special teams coach Joe Marciano was relieved of his duties. The New England Patriots Trey Flowers has been a popular name on the lips of Detroit fans for months and Florida’s Jachai Polite has been a popular pick up for the Lions in mock drafts. The topic even dominated the most recent edition of the PODcast. While General Manger Bob Quinn probably plans to look anywhere to find an elusive pass rushing threat T.J. Jones Jersey , the answer may be already wearing the Honolulu blue. Ezekiel Ansah missed much of the 2018 season with a shoulder injury, but when he was around late in the season he looked great. The defensive end played on the franchise tag last season and there is no chance Detroit uses it again on him. This means that he is set to hit the open market for the first time in his NFL career. While it is expected that he will have a few suitors, it is also possible that his injury history keeps some teams away - lowering his price in the process. If the price gets low enough then we may see Detroit end up reentering the market for their former 1st round selection. How much would you be willing to spend to retain Ansah?A cheap, incentive-laden deal around $4-5 million a year? A mid tier deal around the $10 million mark per year? The market price for an elite pass rusher of around $20 million a year? Somewhere in between? While it is unlikely that Ansah returns, how much would you be willing to hand to Ansah to retain his services?
