EAST RUTHERFORD White Kelechi Osemele Jerseys , N.J. 鈥?Aaron Rodgers refused to sit this one out, even with the playoffs out of the question. And he willed the Green Bay Packers from setting some dubious franchise history.A banged-up Rodgers threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with 6:23 left in overtime, capping an eye-popping performance by leading the Packers to a wild 44-38 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.More Packers coverage from FOX Sports WisconsinGreen Bay Packers 2019 NFL draft capsulesPackers close out 2019 draft, select LB Summers in seventh roundPackers add CB Hollman, RB Williams in sixth roundPackers address defense in fifth round, select DL Kingsley KekePackers use third-round pick to select TE Jace SternbergerThe win was the Packers’ first on the road this season 鈥?snapping a nine-game skid away from Lambeau Field dating to last season 鈥?and it prevented them from becoming the first Green Bay squad since 1958 to go an entire season without a win away from home.“It’s good for the young guys to see what the locker room on the road feels like with a win, what the plane flight feels like,” Rodgers said. “How special that plane ride is after a road victory.”And this one was all on Rodgers, who was masterful in the fourth quarter and the overtime period for the Packers (6-8-1).He threw for 442 yards and touchdowns to Adams and Jake Kumerow, and also ran for two scores 鈥?his first since the 2016 season. That’s despite a groin issue that nagged him last week, and a knee ailment that has bothered him all season. Rodgers was intent on playing, and believed it proved something.“That it matters, even when the record isn’t great and you’re not going to the playoffs,” he said. “That I have a lot of pride. I love competing in anything. I don’t want to look back in 20 years and wonder, ‘What if I had played that game? Could something special have happened? What would it look like to my teammates if they knew I kind of quit on them?’ I hope my teammates know I’m never going to quit on them.“I’m going to battle through anything I’ve got, and they did the same.”They certainly did, erasing a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit and improving to 2-1 under interim coach Joe Philbin, who replaced the fired Mike McCarthy earlier this month.“I think it speaks a lot about the character of the guys,” Philbin said. “They never stopped believing that they could get the job done.”The loss for the Jets (4-11) overshadowed a dazzling performance by rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, who threw for a career-high 341 yards 鈥?but never got a chance with the ball in overtime. Darnold was 24 of 35 passing with TDs to Robby Anderson, Chris Herndon and Elijah McGuire, who also ran for a score.“As an offense, we’ve just got to finish,” Darnold said. “We had a chance to put the game away.”It was also likely the final home game for coach Todd Bowles, who’s expected to be fired after next week’s game at New England. The Jets were done in by penalties, getting called for a whopping 16 that cost them 172 yards. Bowles was critical of the officiating crew Kelechi Osemele Jerseys 2019 , saying some of the calls against New York shouldn’t have happened.“I haven’t seen one like that in my 18, 19 years in the league,” Bowles said. “I thought we were playing two teams: I thought we were playing the Packers and the striped shirts.”After the Packers won the OT toss and elected to receive, Rodgers took over 鈥?as he has so many times throughout his career. On third-and-10 from the Packers 40, Rodgers got hit as he was throwing and his pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling hung in the air and fell incomplete 鈥?but Trumaine Johnson was called for pass interference, putting the ball at the Jets 27. Moments later, a pass interference call on Buster Skrine gave the Packers the ball at the 6.Rodgers ran it in 鈥?but right tackle Bryan Bulaga was called for holding. On the next play, Rodgers found Adams in the back of the end zone for the rare road victory.“It would have been pretty pathetic if would have gone the entire season without one,” Adams said. That all came after Rodgers went over a pile and reached past the goal line for a go-ahead 1-yard touchdown with 1:13 left in regulation, giving Green Bay its first lead. Rodgers’ initial 2-point conversion try was intercepted by Darryl Roberts 鈥?but Roberts was called for defensive holding. Rodgers then ran it in to make it 38-35, finishing off a terrific drive that included a 23-yard run to get the ball to the 1.Andre Roberts, selected to his first Pro Bowl earlier in the week, returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards to put the Jets in good shape. Darnold completed passes of 9 and 14 yards to get the Jets to the Green Bay 15. But three straight passes fell incomplete and New York settled for a tying 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers with 17 seconds left in regulation.SPECIAL SPECIAL TEAMSRoberts returned a kickoff 99 yards for a score late in the first half, the second of his career, to highlight a solid outing by New York’s special teams unit.Rontez Miles took a direct snap on a punt on fourth-and-1 from the Jets 31 in the fourth quarter and ran up the middle for 4 yards and a first down. Anthony Wint also forced a fumble on a kickoff earlier in the game. The one hiccup came on the game’s opening drive, when Jason Myers 鈥?picked for his first Pro Bowl 鈥?was wide left on a 45-yard attempt.LEO LOSES COOLJets defensive end Leonard Williams was ejected after throwing a punch at Bulaga in the second quarter. The penalty gave the Packers the ball at the Jets 7.Jamaal Williams took the ensuing handoff, stayed in bounds after a hit by Jamal Adams and stretched his body 鈥?and the ball 鈥?over the goal line for a TD that made it 21-14 with 1:33 left.INJURIESPackers LG Lane Taylor hurt a knee in the first quarter and CB Jaire Alexander injured his groin in the first half. Neither returned.UP NEXTPackers: Host Detroit next Sunday.Jets: At New England next Sunday. I look forward to hearing your responses!Gang Green Nation Reader Spotlight: McguirkjThe Basics:What’s your name and/or username? Mcguirkj – John McGuirkWhat city/state do you live in? County Tipperary, in the Republic of Ireland. There’s a song about what a long way away it is, you may have heard it.How old are you? 34 years oldThe Miscellaneous:What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? My grandmother, god bless her soul, once told me that time spent worrying what other people think of you is time completely wasted. You just make yourself insecure. Just be yourself, and the rest will sort itself out.If you could grab lunch with anybody in the past White Jamison Crowder Jerseys , present or future—dead or alive, who would it be and why? I think Augustus Caesar. His life story is fascinating, from tyrannical dictator at 18 to beloved statesman fifty years later, and I’d love to find out the truth of it all.If you were stranded on a deserted island for the rest of forever, which musical artist would you be listening to, and which television series would you be watching? I’d probably be listening to the Canadian folk artist, Loreena McKennitt (go listen to “the old ways” on youtube) and watching Game of Thrones. The Jets Related Questions:How did you become a Jets fan? When I was in my late teens, about 16 years ago, and not a fan of football at all, some friends of a friend were over in Ireland from New Jersey in September. Manchester United were having a rough year and they kept saying “man, you think YOU got it bad? You better be glad you’re not a Jets fan.” Their constant sporting refrain was that the Jets sucked and were terrible but “success is just around the corner”. I thought this was a good time to get on the bandwagon, watched a few games, and got hooked. Man I hate those guys. What’s your favorite Jets memory? What about your most painful Jets memory? Favourite memory is dragging my fianc茅 to the London game against the Dolphins a few years ago (photo is of that day). Not only did the Jets STOMP the fish, but Neil Glat (Team VP) came over and talked to us for fifteen minutes, even though we were just random fans (well a random fan and his football-sceptic other half). I was very touched by it, and I remember it made Orla’s day too. Classy.Worst memory? Humiliating losses are bad, but I think a few years ago when my father in law asked me “how are the Jets looking this year” and I had to say “well things were looking okay until one of our linebackers punched the quarterback and broke his jaw”. That was a low point. In your humble opinion, who is the most dominant Jet to ever play and why? Namath. I know there are lots of other candidates and cult heroes in the fanbase, but Namath won it all, and is not just a Jets legend, but an NFL legend.Who is your favorite Jets player and why? I think I might be the only person who wasn’t in his family to buy a Tanner Purdum shirt. In a period where everyone else was incompetent, Tanner never let me down. A hero. More seriously, in the time I’ve been a fan, there hasn’t been a better Jet, and few better men who played as Jets, than Nick Mangold. If Woody Johnson handed you a blank check and gave you a choice to be a part of the New York Jets organization in any capacity Jamison Crowder Jerseys 2019 , which position would you choose, and why? (It could be GM, Head Coach, Quarterback, Linebacker, Head of Scouting, Waterboy—the sky is the limit).I’d be the GM obviously.Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles get fired after the season and Woody Johnson decides to name you the next GM, giving you one very clear goal: win the Super Bowl within the next 4 years. What is your strategy to make the Jets a Super Bowl winner? What is your strategy to build this team into a perennial Super Bowl contender? On the offensive side, I think we have the most important piece already, and he wears #14. You have to do two things: Protect him, and get him weapons. I would prioritize O linemen in the top rounds of the draft for the next three years, aiming for a couple of solid guards and two tackles. The weapons I would pursue via free agency and trades. This coming offseason, Bell would be priority #1, with Tevin Coleman as a fallback option, and I’d be willing to splash the cash on a top WR if one becomes available. Adam Humphries is someone I’d be looking closely at to fill the slot role, with Anderson and Enunwa staying put. Ultimately though we will not win a Superbowl without a top 10 offensive line, so I’d be looking to bring in Mitch Morse and AJ Cann in free agency, and making our next franchise LT a very high draft priority with pick #3 (while remaining open to a trade down)On the defensive side of the ball, I would trade Leonard Williams if I could get a 3rd round pick for him. Additions here rely a lot on scheme. But my philosophy would be to build a team that can get back to stopping the run first and keeping them in 2nd and long as often as possible. To that end, Grady Jarrett would be a top target in FA. Top end draft picks would be spent primarily on the offensive line and skill positions, but I would be trying to draft a cornerback in the 3rd or 4th every year to generate a pipeline of talent into the back end of the D. I think decent linebackers are a good place to invest free agent dollars instead of draft picks, unless an exceptional talent falls to you. We should be set at safety for the foreseeable future, so that position is not a priority. That leaves the edge, and there is no obvious solution there. Dee Ford maybe, but that’s a scheme thing to be discussed with the coaches.
