There is one position group that actually might be set for a long time to come. With the emergence of Jordan Thomas and Jordan Akins last season, also known as the Jordan Twins, Houston seemed better at the tight end position than they had been in a long time. Essentially since the end of the Kubiak era that saw Owen Daniels and James Casey providing quality play at the position, the team has been searching for quality in the tight end role. Now, it seems, they finally have it. It was just a few years ago that head coach Bill O’Brien was getting burned in effigy over the lack of tight end production, but now, he may have that situation well in hand. They resigned defensive end Angelo Blackson for 3-years $12 million. Entering this offseason Blackson, Brandon Dunn, Christian Covington, and Joel Heath (RFA) were all free agents. It seems like Houston picked Blackson of the four to stay here. I’m assuming he’ll play more 3-4 defensive end. I don’t get paying this much for a marginal player. Blackson is a decent run stopper on a defense with some of the best run stoppers in football, but he can’t rush the passer. He had one sack and two quarterback hits last season. Hopefully this is just a depth signing because Houston didn’t want to have too much turnover on the defensive line, and the Texans still make a commitment to finding an interior pass rusher.
