Several years ago Windows defender was not that good, it was so useless that it was there for show only. But credit goes to the Microsoft team, they’ve improved windows defender in recent years and now it is usable and offers a few features that are better than other antivirus software.

So, if you are not a heavy user, windows defender is good enough to or even better for your system. But if you are a heavy user and have some important data on your system, then you might want to purchase a better antivirus to protect the system.
