When it comes to planning your perfect wedding look, you suddenly realise there are a lot of things to consider. What will your dress look like? What style of makeup do you want? What jewellery will you wear and how will you have your nails done? Will you have a tan, and what hairstyle will work best? That last one is what we want to talk about today. The hairstyle you choose for your big day should frame your face, flatter your figure and work well with the style of dress you’ve chosen. Not the simplest of things to figure out!

There is a lot of pressure on brides now to fit in with whatever the current hair trend it – right now it’s up do’s and pixie cuts – but if you’ve never worn your hair up a day in your life, or love your long, flowing locks, why should you change now? On your wedding day, you want to look like the best version of you that you can, so instead of going with the trends, focus on finding a style that suits your face and makes you smile. To help, we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to help you figure out what hairstyle would suit your face shape.

But first, you need to identify what shape your face is. This is relatively easy to do and will make such a big difference to the way you style and manage your hair in the future. There are a lot of tools out there that will help you work out your face shape, but we used this one. Once you know what shape your face is, try out a few styles from your category, or design your own based on your main facial features.

An oval face is wider than it is long, with a forehead and jaw roughly the same width and a slightly rounded chin. Tight retro curls, a side swept straight fringe or big, bouncy curls for longer hair work best with this style, as it brings some width and balance to your face. Choosing a nice, volumous hairstyle and long chunky earrings can do wonders for an oval face.

If you have a diamond shaped face, it will look long and narrow, with your cheekbones being the widest aspect and featuring a pointy chin. This face shape works best with slicked back styles that avoid hair touching your face. A diamond face can start to look very narrow when there’s lots of hair surrounding it, so try pushing it back shoulder veils – either by tying it up or leaving it loose and pinning the front behind your ears. Ponytails and updo’s are great for diamond shaped faces, along with deep side partings and light, off-centre bangs that can be pinned back.

And for bustier and apple-shaped brides looking for that unique boho wedding dress look, opt for Giana Lynette (featuring added support and coverage to Giana). This floral lace plus-size mermaid wedding dress is designed to flatter your figure, up your bouquet game, and most importantly, dazzle your photographer with oodles of bridal-portrait potential.

A Tip for Accessorizing Unique Boho Wedding Dresses
To play up the uniqueness of your wedding gown, consider adding one or two statement accessories to your look. For example, pair a colorful flower crown with an extended illusion lace train. Or match your homecoming dresses floral earrings with one of our statement veils. Just be careful not to over-accessorize, as that can overwhelm your aesthetic. To browse more accessories, inquire with one of our Authorized Retailers for jewelry, veil, and train options.

A square face is solid in shape with wide cheekbones, a broad forehead and a strong, angular jawline. Long hairstyles are often the most flattering for this shape, and are usually best worn straight. If you can, an A line haircut (long length bangs reaching your chin) helps minimise any sharp corners and round out your face wedding dresses slightly. If you’re going for an updo, opt for something that’s loose, curl and soft, with loose sections around your face rather than something slicked back and severe.

A round face is one of the most common and is generally quite even, as long as it is wide with a rounded chin, giving it a circular appearance. To make the most of this shape, add height and volume with your hair, as this will trick the eye into elongating the face. High ponytails, loose hair with lots of pulled up layers or half up styles with volume at the crown are all perfect.
