“I work on it in between [starts],” he said. “And who knows, I think that’s going to be something that we’ll see how in-game planning goes. I go back to a start I had against the Cubs -- I forget what year it was -- but that’s probably the most curveballs I’ve ever thrown. So it was kind of an in-game, kind of feel pitch for me. Play it by ear, what I’m seeing out there.”

He did an excellent job of pitching in the zone early, striking out Gary Sanchez (slider, swinging) and Clint Frazier (slider, swinging) in the first inning. He loaded the bases in the second inning with no outs but limited the damage to two runs. His fastest pitch was a 93.4 mph sinker to Frazier in the third inning, resulting in a double play. Then, Derek Dietrich struck out swinging on an 83.6 mph slider to conclude Teheran's performance. He got 10 swings-and-misses, including five with his slider and three with his two-seam fastball.
Ross said outfielder Jake Marisnick, who has been slowed by a calf injury, will play in Saturday's "B" game, his first of the spring. After an off day Sunday, he'll be back in the mix on Monday, according to Ross.
