HOW TO CHOOSE GLUE FOR WOOD?
Working with wood requires care and attention. Quality products are assembled without the use of self-tapping screws or bolts. The basis is the studded joint, which is fixed with glue. Choosing the right adhesive for the joint will help to understand the characteristics of the wood species, as well as the components that make up the substance.
NECESSARY PROPERTIES OF THE GLUE
Wood glue will ensure a quality joint between the parts if it has the following characteristics:
- resistance to moisture;
- resistance to temperature fluctuations;
- flowability; viscosity;
- the absence of harmful impurities;
- elasticity after setting;
- ease of use;
- biological resistance;
- dielectric permeability.
Glued wood parts should have a moisture content that does not exceed 12%. Some compositions allow for 18%. If there is a need to fix parts with higher humidity, polyurethane compositions that draw moisture from the wood are used. For blanks from different batches, a difference not exceeding 2% is allowed. High-quality gluing is possible at temperatures above 18 degrees. Any glue that has come out is removed with a fresh, damp sponge. The gluing process is shown in detail in the video.
